During the 2024 European Robotic Forum hosted by euRobotics in Rimini last week, MAELSTROM has been awarded the Sustainability Leadership Recognition in Robotics, under the category “Developing a Robot to Support Sustainability”!

We were thrilled with such a recognition, as it is well-deserved for our outstanding partners – Tecnalia, CNRS LIRMM, and ST – who were directly engaged in designing and implementing such an innovative and efficient technology. The Robotic Seabed Cleaning Platform underwent successful testing in the Venice Lagoon in both 2022 and 2023. During these tests, it managed to collect over 2 tons of waste, including tires, buoys, ropes, wrecks, and single-use plastics!

The Sustainability Leadership Recognition in Robotics comes just five months after we received the EU Atlantic Award last October in Porto, Portugal. This consecutive recognition highly motivates us to continue our efforts in addressing marine litter and promoting a #circulareconomy through science, technology, and innovation.
